Hiding behind his computer the guy is looking for something shallow ('must enjoy the sun, must enjoy the sea') as a defense mechanism bc he was hurt and has baggage in the same way she does. 'is it you or me?' is his and her introspection regarding their personal, different ways of coping with the same problem -? emotional baggage and moving on into a new relationship. He avoids; she is heavy-hearted.

To me, that line "Is it you or me?" comes off as him seeing this as a game. Think about it. What does he give Caroline? Nothing more than a place to meet, where he goes to see her, realizes she's not pretty (pictures might say a thousand words, but seeing someone in person is much different)? and goes away to do it all over again. "Is it you or me?" Is it you playing a game or is it me? ... How I think about it, anyways.

why? would caroline apologize for being heavy if she meant her actual weight? most people who are overweight don't just apologize for it so i think it's supposed to be about emotional baggage

Did he Ever Send a picture of himself? I was thinking along the lines of "Emotional Baggage" was a bad break up. So then when he gets her name and? photo he realizes it was the girl he was with before hand. And therefore never continues with her, and remakes his post with the little tag nothing to heavy. idk though.

After a long time listening to this song, I think I finally figured this song out. I don't know, I'm no poet of some kind but this is my interpretation. Grieving over loss = heavy is the cost = emotional baggage. Single M in the last verse "Nothing too heavy" probably means he doesn't want any emotional baggage but "It is you or me?" would mean that maybe Single M probably is the one with emotional baggage which explains that he ditched Caroline at the Central Club at noon. That's? about it.

I think that it was meant to be analyzed since there are soo many subtle differences in the lyrics, like a? poem meant to be interpreted, not to be enjoyed.
